Dear SPARK Partners and Supporters,

We are happy to report that SPARK is busy planning for the future. Though we continue to take action each and every day to challenge the sexualization of girls, SPARK wants to ensure that we are being as effective as possible in getting our message out.

Things to look forward to

  • SPARK is hiring! The SPARK Summit Leadership Team is hiring a Project Director to manage the growth of the coalition, support and implement the SPARK strategic plan, coordinate the creation of educational materials, raise funds for SPARK, and administer outreach and public relations activities.  For more information or to get the full posting, email megan@hghw.org
  • New Partnerships– SPARK has developed a relationship with Common Sense Media, an organization that provides trustworthy information about the media to families. Read their article with SPARK partners Hardy Girls Healthy Women, the ASAP Initiative, and Project Girl.
  • New Events– Endangered Species is bringing international attention to the toxic culture that teaches women to hate their bodies. Join SPARK and reimagine a world where all the diverse, real beauty of women and girls is valued.
  • New Website– SPARKsummit.com is updating its site, so that advocates can quickly and easily find the resources they need to support girls.  Stay tuned for our launch!

Things to do today

  • SPARKit with Project Girl– We so loved the “Action Spots” at our SPARK Summit that we’re putting them online so people anywhere and everywhere can SPARKit in their own communities. The SPARKit combines media literacy and youth-inspired activism developed by some of our amazing partner orgs.  Our first activity, Project Girl’s Commercial Land Collage, is part media literacy, part art, and all youth activism. Check it out.

Look for a new SPARKit activity each month.  Next up, Aleah Starr’s Projection, brought to you by Hardy Girls Healthy Women.

  • Add Your Voice- The SPARKteam is blogging about the issues that are important to young women today. Support these young activists by reading, commenting on, and sharing their blogs.  Here’s their take on the Jersey Shore, the Academy Awards, and the popular phrase among boys “Go Make Me a Sandwich”. Know a girl or young woman who would be a great addition to the SPARKteam?  Email dana@hghw.org.
  • Stay updated- SPARK is on the webFacebook, and Twitter. Find and follow us for the latest news on women in the media and ways you can get involved in the movement.

Sincerely,

The SPARK Leadership Team
