Sexual violence is a crime and a violation that affects so many people emotionally, mentally, spiritually – and physically.

One tactic to help survivors heal and to guide activists and the public to come together to advocate for change include using and celebrating our bodies through dance and movement.

There are numerous examples of how dance activists have created deeply engaging performances that raise awareness about the issue as well as organizations that use dance and other forms of movements as part of a healing process.

Here are some of our faves:

WERK for Peace is a dance & activism organization who convened a “Queer Dance Party” outside the home of Vice President Mike Pence, a staunch enemy of LGBTQ rights.

GirlFly is a really amazing dance & activism summer program for girls in San Francisco. Check out this video of their 2017 public performance.

If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, apply HERE to join next summer’s troupe!
